SPECIALTY VITON™ COMPOUNDS

In addition to our general purpose fluorocarbon rubber compounds (generically referred to as FKM’s), RT Dygert offers a variety of special purpose Chemours™ Viton™ materials for those applications that require additional performance properties. The most commonly specified of our specialty Viton™ compounds are described below. All compounds are available in a variety of hardnesses, color is generally black, but other colors are available upon request. Please call one of our customer service representatives to discuss your specific requirements.

Viton™ B offers better resistance to solvents, acids, alcohol and alcohol/fuel blends than the general purpose “A family” of Chemours™ Viton™, at an affordable cost compared to Viton™ “G” and “F” grades. Base resistance is also somewhat improved, but compression set is not quite as good. Broader chemical resistance is attributed to a medium high fluorine content of 68% to 69%.

Viton™ ETP, or Viton™ Extreme™, is resistant to the same fluids as high fluorine FKM’s such as aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, hydraulic fluids, motor oils, fuels, etc., but is also resistant to strong bases and polar fluids such as potassium hydroxide, ketones, MTBE, and complex solvent mixtures. In fact Viton™ ETP has the broadest fluid resistance of any FKM polymer on the market (technically Viton™ ETP is an FEPM), making it ideal for severe service environments. Although costly, it can frequently be substituted for far more expensive perfluoroelastomers (FFKM’s) at a fraction of the cost.

Viton™ GF is a premium grade peroxide curable fluorocarbon elastomer, which affords high tensile strength and exceptional resistance to an expanded variety of fluid media. It is especially well suited for the production of O-Rings requiring resistance to hydrocarbons, alcohol, water, steam and acids. Volume swell in extremely aggressive CM-15 fuel is an impressive +7%. Fluorine content is 70.2%.

Viton™ GLT offers a solution to the relatively poor performance of fluorocarbon elastomers in low temperature environments, while maintaining the excellent heat and fluid resistance of FKM’s in general. Viton™ GLT is suggested for use in static and dynamic sealing applications where a broad temperature service range is required, in addition to good low temperature flexibility, tensile strength, and compression set properties. It can be compounded to achieve a TR10 as low as -30°C; fluorine content is 64%.

Viton™ GFLT, when compared to other fluorocarbon elastomers, combines both improved fluid resistance (similar to GF) and improved low temperature flexibility (similar to GLT). Viton™ GFLT is recommended for sealing applications such as fuel systems utilizing gasoline/alcohol blends and/or “oxygenated” fuels, as well static seals that must retain a degree of flexibility at temperatures as low as -40°C. Fluorine content is 67%.
